Top Ten Childhood Books

Top Ten is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.

1. Nancy Drew (1-26) by Carolyn Keene - I have to admit that as a child I was not a fan of reading (yes, the truth must come out) but when I started reading Nancy Drew I was instantly hooked. I wouldn't go to bed sometimes without reading what happens next plus the pictures always made it cooler to read.

2. Tuck Everlasting by Natalie Babbitt - So, I didn't actually read this book, but I did have someone read it to me, if that counts, and I really liked it. Maybe one of these days now that I'm older I'll actually pick it up and read it cover to cover.

3. Charlotte's Web by E.B. White - One of the few books I read as I kid and liked. I actually remember always wanting a pet pig afterwards.

4. Holes by Louis Sachar - There is something about the beginning I always liked, but I never seem to get to the end. Again, I was only a kid and hated reading so once I got to my favorite parts I would put it down. Still, I like it a lot.

5. The Babysitters Club by Ann M. Martin - This was such a cute and fast read for me. You can't go wrong with this book series.

6. Bridge to Terabithia by Katherine Paterson - I almost wanted to cry in this book, but I held myself back, but seriously, this story just gives you waterworks.

7. Song of the Lioness Quartet by Tamora Pierce - My first steps into actual fantasy. I have this woman to thank for expanding my imagination and making me realize that there is more than just my very limited world of this.

8. Tick Tock, You're Dead by R.L. Stein - This probably the only book of his that I read. And was able to reread, without being scared.

9. Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul by Jack Canfield and Mark Victor Hansen - I think I only read this because everything was really short, it wasn't until I stopped reading it that I realized that these stories were by real people! It was a revelation I couldn't believe. Anyways, I read a few more of these but this was my favorite series.

10. Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen: Two of a Kind series by Megan Stine - I actually started reading this in middle school in the sixth grade. I hadn't even realized I liked that until I found myself going to the library daily to pick up the next book. I actually liked this even before Nancy Drew, which I picked up a year later.

Nancy Drew is a classic, at least for me. My mom read them before me, if you can imagine that!

I agree - Tamora Pierce is one brilliant lady. Though I didn't read any of her books til I was in college, I have to say that she's now one of my favorite authors :)
