In Manhattan: Stacking the Shelves (9)

Hello! Welcome to In Manhattan, a weekly recap of everything that's been going on in the blog. I've combined it with Stacking the Shelves, a weekly meme hosted by Tygna's Reviews.

For the news this week, there was a blog tour stop for Who's Your Daddy, Baby? I reviewed the book and the author stopped by for an interview.

In other bookish news, Strange Chemistry, a new YA fantasy & SF imprint from Angry Robots, just announced that a new author, Ingrid Jonach, has been added to their growing list of new authors. I'm being lazy and instead of showing you the press release I got, I'm just telling you. I kind of think it's cool and I hope they'll start sending out copies soon.

Last, but not least it was my Blogoversary on Tuesday (July 24th). I am officially a year old!

Aside from that nothing much has happened. So, what did I get this week?

Bought:
Whoever follows me on Twitter may have seen this already:

I was at BN writing and made a little stop to the YA section before leaving, and I swore to myself  I would not get the books, but when I saw the new covers I fell in love. They were so pretty and awesome, I couldn't resist. I have never been a huge Sarah Dessen fan, but it is never too late to stop. And I cannot stop thinking how cool they would look on my bookshelf. Also, for the record, I have only read one Dessen book in my short life, and that must remedied.

Hopefully I'll buy the rest in the coming weeks, after school books of course.

Someone Like You by Sarah Dessen
This Lullaby by Sarah Dessen
Lock & Key by Sarah Dessen
Along for the Ride by Sarah Dessen

A Need So Beautiful by Suzanne Young (iBook)

The Highlander's Heart by Amanda Forester (NookBook)

Carrier of the Mark by Leigh Fallon (ebook)

This was more of a gift than anything. After I read a review on the book and how close it resembled Twilight I didn't really want to read it, but I guess my dad thought I did because he got it for me anyways, I don't really know. Also, I heard about Fallon being on the list of misbehaved authors, and normally I try to keep the author and the work separate, I mean, you can't blame a child for the parent acting badly, right? But, we'll see.

ARCs:
 Phoenix by A.J. Scudiere

Release Date: October 2nd, 2012
Publisher: Griffyn Ink

Jason Mondy’s world is unraveling.

His seemingly secure job as a fire fighter is suddenly thrown into chaos. The bright spot in his week is that he rescued two children from a house fire, but he returns home that night to find all his furniture is missing. His girlfriend has left him without warning and his nightmares keep him from sleeping. Even just a simple trip home to find some rest leads his adoptive mother to sit him down and tell him that maybe his troubles aren’t quite as innocuous as they seem. Then his she divulges a secret she’s kept for over twenty-six years . . .

Jason has a brother he doesn’t remember existed.

He doesn’t remember his life before he was adopted at age seven. He only knows that he was rescued from the fire that took his birth mother’s life. But the story is deeper than that, and the foundation on which he built his world is now cracking. The brother he doesn't remember it out there somewhere, left behind.

Armed with only this stunning new piece of information, Jason embarks on a quest to find the truths buried deep in his past. As he searches, one by one the pieces of his life fall like dominoes. And the more he uncovers, the more everything he thought he knew about himself and his past begins to turn to ash.

I'm really excited for this, because this will be a new tour stop that has come up, and with a giveaway! Three books and three firefighter hats, which I'm told are really cool. I don't know yet if the publisher will be mailing them out or me, but I will keep everyone informed about what's going on with that. And of course there will be an interview, featuring the star of the novel, Jason Mondy!

Thank you JKS Communication for letting me read/review/host giveaway/interview!
